چکیده

Abstract Pétrola Lake in southeast Spain is one of the most representative examples hypersaline wetlands southern Europe. The rich ecosystem and environmental importance this lake are closely associated with hydrogeological behaviour system. wetland fed by underlying aquifer relatively fresh groundwater—1 g L −1 total dissolved solids (TDS)—with a centripetal direction towards wetland. In addition, high evaporation rates region promote an increase concentration salts water, occasionally higher than 80 TDS. density difference between superficial water regional groundwater can reach up to 0.25 cm −3 , causing gravitational instability density-driven flow (DDF) under bottom. objective study was gain understanding geometry freshwater–saltwater interface means two-dimensional mathematical modelling geophysical-resistivity-profile surveys. magnitude mixed convective flows, generated DDF, support hypothesis that autochthonous reactive organic matter produced biomass be transported effectively areas (e.g. springs edge), where previous research described biogeochemical processes natural attenuation nitrate pollution.

Acceleration-driven variable- density turbulent flow

We discuss turbulent dynamics and mixing of a variable-density flow subject to a uniformacceleration field. The flow resulting from initial misalignments of pressure and density gradients is investigated for small to large density ratios, with evidence that the smalldensity ratio flow is described by the Boussinesq approximation. A new shear-layer growth rate is reported. Spectra collapse when ...

Methanotrophy under Versatile Conditions in the Water Column of the Ferruginous Meromictic Lake La Cruz (Spain)

Lakes represent a considerable natural source of methane to the atmosphere compared to their small global surface area. Methanotrophs in sediments and in the water column largely control methane fluxes from these systems, yet the diversity, electron accepting capacity, and nutrient requirements of these microorganisms have only been partially identified. Here, we investigated the role of electr...

Inner-sphere adsorption geometry of Se(IV) at the hematite (100)-water interface.

The 3-dimensional structure of adsorption complexes on mineral surfaces provides insight into the fundamental mechanisms controlling sorption processes. This is important to the development of a general understanding of the behavior of contaminants such as selenite in the environment. The adsorption of selenite (SeO3(2-)) on the hematite (100) surface was studied using X-ray standing wave (XSW)...

The Variable Geometry Approach to International

Negotiations among nations on policies to promote international economic integration have widened in recent years to cover new issues; for example, foreign direct investment rules, policies to promote competition, the international movement of labor, the environment and monetary union. In these negotiations, a consensus among the parties negotiating is usually lacking and many of these negotiat...
